Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp
I have a Dell Inspiron 1318 with vista . Sound works fine. I installed Intrepid 8.1 and the volume is very, very quiet with all the controls turned up. I listen to preaching and teaching cds and if a truck goes by or the heater comes on it's inaudible. After upgrading to Jaunty 9.04, the problem remains the same. I double boot, and the sound is still plenty loud in the Vista partition. After checking the forums I found out about checking for drivers and how to get the information for my soundcard. My audio device is Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller. There are also 3 PCI bridges with the same information. After looking at the Alsa Matrix, I see that they have the drivers up through ICH7, but don't yet have one for ICH8. I expect that what is needed is the driver for my sound device. http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Vendor-Intel I hope this will help lead to a fix for this problem.
