Public bug reported:

The Gedit package recommends python-gnome2-desktop. However, at least
the modelines, snippets and external tools python plugins, shipped by
default in that package, require pygtksourceview, which is included in
python-gnome2-desktop. Without it, those plugins will show up but won't
be activable.

Here's the output from gedit when run without python-gnome2-desktop, when 
trying to activate one of these plugins:
