Public bug reported:

After upgrading from breezy to dapper, gnome-volume-manager no longer
works on an i386 machine. Running "gnome-volume-manager -n" as suggested
here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices

results in nothing. The process won't start at all.

The proper g-v-m package appears to be installed:

$ apt-cache policy gnome-volume-manager
gnome-volume-manager:
  Installed: 1.5.15-0ubuntu10
  Candidate: 1.5.15-0ubuntu10
  Version table:
 *** 1.5.15-0ubuntu10 0
        500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com dapper/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

** Affects: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed

** Attachment added: "strace output from attempt to start gnome-volume-manager"
