I had the same problem with the "m" key, the problem was that the
keyboard shortcut for Copy (or Paste) of the gnome terminal was set to
the "m" key.

I suspect that the problem comes from a bug in gnome terminal automatic
keyboard shortcut   functionality (select a menu function and type keys
to assign a shortcut), normally it should work only with if a control
key is given but maybe in some case it works only with one and hence the
bug ...
