Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

My desktop machine has no way of playing audio. The motherboard does
have an integrated soundcard, but nothing is attached to it. (The PC
speaker is also physically disconnected.) GNOME's panel (notification
area) has an applet for controlling the volume that is useless and
distracting. It does not have a menu entry for disabling it. It seems I
have to remove it from startup applications and kill the process to get
rid of it.

Please add a simple, obvious way to remove the applet.
