      The problem isn't to offer both eject & umount. The problem is that when 
you click the eject button in Nautilus. It completely disconnects the device. 
The patch above force fully makes all usb storage devices get disconnected from 
the USB bus. Meaning you can't use them again.

       There is no problem though using programs like palimpsest (the
Gnome disk utility tool) which use device kit and don't have this issue.
