Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session
(gnome-session is merely a guess at the right package.) My desktop machine, which runs karmic (and is up to date as of about half an hour ago), won't let any account except my own log in. I created a brand new account (tomjon), and reproduced the problem there. I will attach the .xsession-errors file for tomjon. The actual login works, and the session is started, but fails before the login completes and before the GNOME desktop shows up. Instead, the gdm greeter comes back. There are no user-visible error messages on the screen, one has to dig them out of .xsession-errors.
