Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

OS: Ubuntu 9.10 beta "Karmic Koala"
PackageVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
Expectation: Ability to adjust volume and sound properties
What happened instead:

Using a VIA Artigo Pico ITX computer, the sound card is a VT1708A HD.
When I right-click the volume icon in gnome and select sound
preferences, my speakers pop suddenly and then the device listed under
the preferences disappears from the list. I then have no sound at all
and have to reboot to have sound again. No errors are given and the
only related things in any of my logs have been in syslog:

Oct 8 14:18:57 <hostname> pulseaudio[1227]: main.c: Unable to contact D-Bus:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: /bin/dbus-launch terminated
abnormally with the following error: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization
failed.

Invalid argument

Note that <hostname> is a replacement for my actual hostname.

Not sure how to manually collect information about this issue, so if
anyone wants to offer advice, please do. I can reproduce this bug very
easily :)
