Hello, I have the same problem over my MSI Wind U100. I noticed, too, that when the desktop is loaded and the brightness box in top right is going crazy, if I press ALT-F1 and I write my login, in the password fields appears ^...@^@^...@^@^...@^@ continuosly; the problem stops when the brightness starts to work properly. Maybe there's a connection between the problems (I.E. something related with the keyboard management that passes a key combination to the gnome-power-manager)?
