Another problem with the way this is functioning is that if you DO want Rhythmbox to work with your ipod but the plugin is turned off, Rhythmbox appears to read the ipod it but won't let you do anything with it (and it doesn't warn you other than hiding some obscure mime and gstreamer messages in an import errors log).
