I just noticed for me the other applets are also running slow. For example I have Tomboy Notes and when I opened the Manage Notes window I noticed that it's menus were acting slow too. Therefore I think all these things are linked. The GUI interface (not sure what it is) eg gtk, qt... is the thing causing problems. We need to find out what GUI it is and try to reinstall it or use a newer version to see if that will fix the slow menus.
