Thats OK, I'll chase upstream.. Just wanted to put a feeler out on this
one to see what others thought about it.

I agree the empty cdrom icon is kind of useful, because you can
(usually) eject/open the drive tray/etc.. (that's actually missing in
karmic at the moment, but that's another issue :)

A card reader really doesn't have anything to offer like this, other than the 
comfort that the device is actually present.. 
the SD/XD/MMC port on my Toshiba notebook doesn't show up unless a card is 
inserted, it's only really the old clunky cardreaders..

Trying to locate an actual device with real media amongst all those
empty icons is still quite a pain in the backside.

Perhaps we could make the unmounted media icons more transparent/lightly
coloured to make the others stand out more?
