running gdm from the tty login as well as adding a "sleep 1" directly in front of the "exec gdm-binary" line in /etc/init/gdm.conf fixes the problem.
we seem to hit a race condition here, probably some prerequisite gdm relies on is slower on armel than on other architectires (though the overall bootspeed is significantly faster here than it was in karmic (under 10sec to X, about 25sec to a fully working desktop. using a USB key for the rootfs) with the above sleep added the problem didnt occur at all anymore. -- gdm dies on babbage2.5 board with recent boot speedup changes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
