Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When copying files from a gvfs-mounted folder on an sftp server, I often
experience panel crashes at the exact moment that the progress bar
appears. The panel reloads/refreshes immediately, but the icon
associated with the progress bar is no longer visible in the
notification area. The progress bar window itself is unaffected, but
when the window is closed there is no way to monitor the file copy
progress (though the files are still copied). The .xsession-errors log
shows the following message:

The program 'gnome-panel' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 162638 error_code 4 request_code 54 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
