I am also experiencing the same problem after I have upgraded to Karmic.
Up till now, everything was solid and responsive. whenever I open
Evolution and attempt to attach a photo (approx 1.3 - 1.5 mb) the
Evolution windows will go gray, the cpu utilization will hit 100%, and
if I leave it overnight, it still doesn't resolve itself. I have to
kill Evolution. I am able to use Mozilla Firefox and a gmail account to
send the files, but ever since Karmic, this problem persists.

I'm using a Dell laptop (XPS M1330, Ubuntu 9.10, kernel:
2.6.31-16-generic, GNOME 2.28.1, 3.4GiB, Processor 0 and Processor 1 are
both intel core 2 duo T5550 @ 1.83Ghz).

This also happens if I attempt to right-click on a file (photo) and
select "Send to". I get the dialog box, and if I'm lucky, I can send 1
picture. Otherwise when I enter the recipient, and the window switches
to Evolution, it will gray out and everything will slow down.

If I don't attempt to attach any of the photos to an email, everything
else appears to be stable and functioning.
