The shell commands grep filename ~/.gnome2/backgrounds.xml | sed -e 's/<filename>//g' | sed -e 's/<\/filename>//g' | less
will show all the paths and filenames of the list of background images. This will be of use if no change is made in Karmic to fix this problem. I attached a script with these commands.
