I have the same problem. I realized that while using the "glade"-software which has many single windows and edit boxes. the cursor is blinking in the edit box but you can't type something. when you left the cursor in the edit box and click the header of the window, the edit box gets editable. but it's not a problem of "glade" cause I had this problem in other gnome apps and with other content elements too.
