@Nigel Babu: My impression is that that Brian Ewins' comments is probably as much upstream feedback as we are going to get. Since the upstream focus is now shifted to the above mentioned "long-term solution".
In that sense I would say the patches as it is now are "complete", since it's likely that no more work/review will be done of it. Decision is then whether to take it as it is now, or wait for the long- term solution.
