This is going to be a difficult to troubleshoot without the document.
Can you attach the output of pdfinfo to this bug report? The background
"boilerplate" is probably one or more images, but just in case it has
some text please also attach the output of pdffonts.
Lastly, can you try viewing the document with an Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid
Lynx" beta Live CD and let us know the results?
