Your Majesty (sorry I couldn't resist that one) If you switch to metacity (press Alt-F2 type: metacity --replace) does he problem still persist? You can switch back to compiz by using compiz --replace.
For me the cursor goes to comix regular in Compiz on the desktop but displays my default cursor within applications. When I switch to metacity it performs as usual. I will tentatively mark this as a compiz bug, I will open a new bug if metacity doesn't change the cursor behaviour. -- Schizophrenic cursors.
