Is your laptop configured to suspend when the lid is closed? When it
suspends, it will turn off networking to save battery. Go to System ->
Preferences -> Power Management and make sure On AC Power and On Battery
Power -> "When laptop lid is closed" aren't set to suspend or hibernate.

If that doesn't fix the problem, have you tested it on Karmic or Lucid
beta?
