What kind of file are you trying to rotate (i.e. jpeg, raw file,..,)?
Could you right-click on the file in Nautilus and report the file type
shown under properties (something like "JPEG Image (image/jpeg)") or run
"file --mime-type YOURFILENAME" in a console?
