This affects me as well. Started noticing it on 9.10, and it has
persisted since upgrading to 10.04. Reading from a SMB share with gvfs
results in about 1.6mb/sec over 100mbit lan. The behavior is the same
using nautilus to drag-n-drop, or if I use 'cp' from a terminal. If I
use smbclient, I get about 8-10mb/sec copying to and from the same
place. In my case, it is only reproducible copying a file *from*
certain host machines. I am stumped how to troubleshoot this. It is
specific to gvfs, but also seems to be relegated to Windows XP SMB
servers as well. Perhaps that is a clue?
