During the above process, I had the option selected under the address book's properties to be available to work offline. If I turn that off, and restart Evolution, the new contact finally appears, but as the only entry in the address book. The rest of my address book is gone from Evolution. If I turn the "Copy book content..." option on again I can get my address book back, but the new contact disappears again, and doesn't come back even if I turn the option off a second time.
