I've this issue with one of my USB HDD. I thought formatting it can resolve it 
however even gparted can't umount it.
Here is gparted output on umount
 Text ended before matching quote was found for ". (The text was 'sh -c 'umount 
-v "/media/P'TIK"'')
 Hope this helps someone understand the problem. I may start a thread on forums 
as well
