I have just discovered that the BOM have been experimenting with the formatting of the Melbourne forecast page that is used to extract the info the applet presents:
http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml The forecast text is currently massaged to be full of HTML formatting whereas cities like Sydney and Brisbane still have plain text and still work in the applet.
