Confirmed since I'm also seeing this (in my case on firefox 
3.6.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu2 - and a lot of other programmes).
Note I do not have appmenu-gtk installed - it was installed but I apt-get 
removed it.

Ah - I think I might see what's happening here.
  1) Installing appmenu-gtk adds /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80appmenu
  2) This sets the environment variable UBUNTU_MENUPROXY to libappmenu.so
  3) If you remove appmenu-gtk the variable is still set - and you get these 
errors
  4) apt-get remove on appmenu-gtk leaves behind the 
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/80appmenu causing these errors to persist.
