Workaround: - If you release ctrl+alt and then hit ctrl+alt+L, it locks the screen just as expected. + If you release ctrl+alt and then hit ctrl+alt+L, it locks the screen just as expected. Also, hitting L a second time while keeping ctrl+alt still depressed works as well. Fundamental security hygiene as well as company policy requires that I lock my screen when I leave my computer. Annoyingly, I frequently find myself returning to an unlocked screen when I have fetched my cup of coffee, or whatever. I believe I have now pinpointed the cause: if I switched virtual screens (e.g. so I remember to check my mail when I return to my desk) just before leaving, the computer would not lock. Further experimentation revealed that if I release the ctrl+alt keys and then press ctrl+alt+L, locking seems to work just fine, but if I keep ctrl+alt depressed after pressing an arrow key and press L, nothing happens. Sorry if this is filed against the wrong package.
