I tried again In Ubuntu 9.10 (this time with Revolution OS disc 2). I
first experienced bug #466123. After installing gstreamer0.10-plugins-
ugly and reinserting the DVD it went through these steps:

* Pick the default (Open Movie Player) and click OK.
* The Totem movie player window appears, along with a dialog box "Search for
suitable plugin?".
* Click on the Search button.
* A window appears titled "Install Multimedia Plugins". It says "Please select
the packages for installation to provide the following plugins: - GStreamer
element dvdspu". A popup window shows a progress bar while it searches. Then it
says: "No packages with the requested plugins found".
* Click OK. The "Install Multimedia Plugins" window disappears and I'm back
with Totem. The "Free Software Song" music video starts playing immediately.

I don't know what fix was implemented, but it seems it could use a
little polish. I'm not sure if this bug report should be reopened or a
new one filed.
