Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After a period of inactivity evolution will try to ping the imap server
before preforming any action, many imap servers don't support this and
evolution hangs until the connection times out, and then preforms the
decried action. This make Evolution very slow to work with. A work
around is to cancel the ping but this dosn't always work and can quickly
turn in to a full time job.

This bug may also be related bug #76796, but it does not seam like a

I am currently on a fully updated Lucid.
