Thank you for your bug report, the old behaviour was inconsitent with pretty much every other desktop software, when you close something it exit and doesn't go to the notification area or something. The current behaviour is the one designed in the specification and will not change for maverick, the player exit if you close it while unactive or minimize if it's playing something
