This all looks so familar. The gdmgreeter not connecting, and in my case gdmsetup also emulates the greeter and won't /can't connect. Nobody seems to know what's wrong. I have aklso lost the halt/reboot icons/functions from the quit command on the menu (I am running EDGY)
Last night after the latest update which included GDM, everything went back to normal....until I rebooted.
