To remedy this problem, I removed and reinstalled all gstreamer0.10 packages using Synaptic Package Manager and restarted my machine. It worked perfectly throughout the remainder of the DVD I had been watching. The wonderful thing to me about that as a former Windows user is that from problem to fix I spent less than 5 minutes. Imagine running into that problem in Windows; I'd still be on hold...
