BTW, I somehow managed to work around the problem, although I'm not sure about the details. I tried the following: - removed samba cmpletely (apt-get purge) - removed Rhythmbox the same way - reinstalled Rhythmbox through Ubuntu Software Center Tried Rhythmbox again - the above steps didn't help. Then I tried Rhythmbox under another user account on my machine - it worked just fine! So I created another admin account, logged into it, deleted mine, then removed and reistalled samba & Rhythmbox again via apt-get using wildcads (sudo apt-get install samba4* & rhythmbox* respectively). NOTE: I installed samba4 this time. Then I re-created an account for myself and logged into it.
