Update: 
I changed the communication protocol in my camera from PTP to "Normal".

The result after connecting the camera was:

l...@workstation01:~$ gvfs-mount -l

Volume(0): Canon Digital Camera
  Type: GProxyVolume (GProxyVolumeMonitorGPhoto2)
  Mount(0): Canon Digital Camera -> gphoto2://[usb:002,006]/
    Type: GProxyShadowMount (GProxyVolumeMonitorGPhoto2)
Mount(1): Canon Digital Camera -> gphoto2://[usb:002,006]/
  Type: GDaemonMount

F-spot is also able to see the camera.

So the problem seems to be in the PTP mode.
