I was having the same issue as listed here running 10.10 with kernel.35-23-generic on x86_64. I ran into the not being able to unlock gdmsetup and figured out that was because I used sudo before it and if you do you are not able to unlock it. You have to run just gdmsetup. Though when I ran it I the same messages in my terminal as the message above me as well as now having this in my syslog.
