Binary package hint: nautilus

HI I am new to the Ubuntu system, and the problem that  I have is that I
download some programs that Its marked  for the system within which the
program offers  and I turn off my computer to finish the process. Then
the next day I turn on my computer and appeared other updates and I run
it, but now I get any menu on the desktop, the screen appears only  with
the background and thas all. Now how can I do to return to  the normally
my computer. Thanks
