Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Fails to open certain PNG images, and worst is the case as Ubuntu's
default wallpaper i.e. 'warty-final-ubuntu.png' is itself impossible to
open. The image viewer doesn't crash but displays red strip that says
"Could not load image '<file name>'. Fatal error reading PNG image file:
Not a PNG file" and strip has Retry button which is when clicked,
doesn't open the image but all it does is the red error strip is
removed. Note that Shotwell (another default option to open and view
images) opens the same file perfectly.
