Hi Brendan, thanks for your cares, I've not planned to update to Ubuntu 11.04 (for reasons not relevant to expose here). However, I guess I would get the same as you, as I suppose this is unlikely to depend on hardware configuration. I've just checked again the behavior for my current version, is the one I exposed in the first message. I also feel the behavior you encountered with your configuration, looks finally related too.
I still can update any application separately, but did not find any updates for Totem in Synaptic (nor for libgstreamer). If you wish, I may be able to update a library Totem may depends on.
