I have been advised in #ubuntu-desktop that in 11.10 the behaviour has been changed...
In 11.10 Empathy does not need to be running at login, instead it brings you online without running empathy. If someone IMs you, and you click on the indicator *then* it runs empathy. I am very happy with this solution. My issue was that the status indicators did not work, so that effectively stuff was broken by default. Unfortunately this will not be fixed until 11.10, but not too long to wait. In the meantime anyone having this problem can just add /usr/bin/empathy to the Start-up Applications in Settings. ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807723 Title: Empathy does not start at login by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/807723/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
