I switched off (and back on) gnome-compatibility in Compiz and now the terminal is back and works as it should. The system seems to be working fine now. I've had some issues with compiz since I swithched to Lynx. The combination seems to be unstable (at least on my config). Sorry for the bother, With kind regards, Henk.
