Forgive me, matteo. I meant on the left side of the folder icon (not the
right).

I was playing with it a bit later, and in one situation (that I could
not replicate), it worked as it is supposed to. (Perhaps it was working
properly only if the folder was empty?)

To record a screencast from gnome-shell, do a ctrl-alt-shift-r (and
again to stop recording). It'll place the movie file (.webm) in your
home directory.

Or another way you can do it is to use Kazam.
Ubuntu 11.10 or later:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bigwhale/kazam-oneric
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kazam
