Now I see the same (or a similar) bug in other programs too: after 3 non-working days the login screen showed me just a text field instead of a dialog; Mozilla Thunderbird showed a naked progress bar and the dialog has appeared only at the moment before closing. And I see the same misbehaviour in Eclipse.
Windows used to misbehave this way due to a graphics handle leak. I think, gedit is a wrong component.
