Thank you for your bug report, not sure where you read that "gnome-
keyring is not supposed to ask for the password, even if automatic login
is selected", but that's not true.

If the keyring could be unlocked by a programatic way without your input
it would mean that any program could unlock it the same way and that
your password keyring would be useless...

You simply can't have a password that a software can "guess for you" and
which is secure, those are just conflicting goals
