i read your explanation. technically, this bug report can be closed as normal behaviour.
however, any non-technical user will certainly have the following questions in his mind. 1. why is not the password set through passwd associated with lightdm just as it is associated with sshd? 2. when the user is doing his normal work like browsing, why is there a sudden pop up 'Enter Password To Unlock Your Login Keyring'? what should the user make out of this pop up? 3. You have written the following sentence. "The root user doesn't have a password set by default, so there is no admin password to ask for in this situation." There is already an admin account created on the system. any sudo command should ask for admin account password. why is the root user coming in here? 4. You have written the following sentence. "Some people prefer this functionality so that they can lock their screen when they step away."
