Maybe that's why you don't understand the bug. Until ubuntu 11.10 there was a lot for nautilus -n to do, i.e. handle the desktop background, place the icons, make the icons thumbnails of the contents. The bug is that this functionality is gone since 12.04. But obviously if you don't know about this function, you don't see the problem.
