I removed Nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version current)[recommended]
NVIDIA accelerated hraphics Driver (post-release updated) (version current-updates) I am now completely free of proprietary drivers and so far it seems to have worked. I rebooted twice and it the problem was not there.
