Well, the standard build does not have bold/italic rulers. Only when (and always when) AbiWord is built as a part of your Ubuntu package (including if it is upgraded with a new upstream version per the Debian New Maintainers' Guide) does the bold/italic numbers come up. This is a downstream-only problem - perhaps a patch with an unintended side- affect?
