Sorry, I've changed my OS into pure Ubuntu 12.04, but I'm still running Mate. The video was taken under these conditions, not under Mint - what means the bug is exactly the same under both distros.
** Description changed: I've set empathy to hide offline contacts. Although, when someone that's online go offline, the contact stay there, but as Offline. Changing "Hide offline contacts" option doesn't affect this.
