Even worst in 12.10 , I got ftp/sftp timeouts in early phases of transferring a file . I tried both PCManFM and Nautilus , both of them relies on gvfs to handle ftp and sftp . I noticed this timeout while transferring a file from a remote server to local machine both sftp and ftp protocols, no problems while doing the inverse (local -> server) .
